We are looking for qualified, competent candidates to join our team as Surgical Assistant. The Surgical Assistant plays a crucial role within the surgical team by supporting the surgeon during procedures, ensuring optimal patient care and surgical efficiency. The role involves preparing the operating room, assisting during surgeries by anticipating the surgeon’s needs, maintaining a sterile field, and providing post-operative care and support.

VAC. 39/2025 SURGICAL ASSISTANT

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, your primary responsibilities are to:

  • Prepare operating theatre with required instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensure sterile techniques are maintained at all times.
  • Position and prepare patients for surgery in accordance with established protocols.
  • Verify equipment functionality and report maintenance issues
  • Assist surgeons during procedures by providing retraction, suction, irrigation, cutting sutures, and controlling bleeding
  • Assist in patient recovery, wound dressing, and documentation
  • Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment efficiently.
  • Monitor patient condition and communicate any concerns to the surgical team

The successful applicant preferably should have the following:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized in Fiji
  • Full registration with Medical Council
  • Postgraduate training in Surgery or related field
  • A minimum of 2 years post-graduate Surgical experience
  • Experience in Advance Emergency resuscitation

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate commensurate with qualifications and experience.
