Dr. Gyneshwar Rao has been in the medical fraternity for more than 30 years and is Specialist Physician.
Dr Rao did his internship training in Lautoka Hospital and thereafter was posted to Sigatoka Hospital as a Medical officer. On completion of his rural attachment he joined the Medical Unit, CWM Hospital, as a Medical Registrar and also worked in the Fiji School of Medicine (FSM) as an Acting Medical Tutor He then moved to Christchurch Hospital, NZ for his post graduate training in Internal Medicine and obtained the FRACP qualification in 1989. On completion of his studies he returned to Fiji and joined CWM Hospital as Consultant Physician and two years later was promoted as the Head of Medical Unit.
Dr Rao was awarded Indian Government Scholarship for MBBS degree in Bombay, India, New Zealand Bilateral Aid Scheme for Postgraduate Studies in Christchurch NZ, Mudaliar’s prize for contribution to Post Graduate Education in Fiji and Eli Lily Prize for Meritorious Service to Fiji Medical Association.
Currently Dr Rao is an Independent Specialist at Oceania Hospitals and also works part-time for the Ministry of Health providing clinical services. He also has a part-time attachment with the Fiji National University (FNU) teaching medical students.
