We are seeking skilled and experienced Anaesthetist to join our team. The incumbent must be highly attentive to detail, well organized and capable of working quickly in pressurized settings, work with patients of diverse backgrounds to provide anaesthesia to paediatric and adult patients for surgical, medical, and diagnostic procedures in and out of the operating room.

VAC. 20/2025 ANAESTHETIST (LOCUM)
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, your primary responsibilities are to:

  • Responsible for administering anesthesia and manage the medical care of patients before, during, and after surgery.
  • Provide pain relief and maintenance, or restoration of a stable condition during and immediately following an operation, or obstetric, therapeutic, or diagnostic procedure.
  • Educate patients and families on pre-and post-procedure care and possible complications; instruct on different ways to prevent disease and improve health.
  • Manage anesthesiological services and coordinate with other professionals to formulate procedures and plans.
  • Able to determine the type of anesthetics to be used; use general, intravenous, local, caudal, or spinal methods to administer sedation or pain medications during surgical and other medical procedures
  • Provides emergency and elective intensive care support to the patients in intensive care unit/critical care unit.

The successful applicant preferably should have the following:

  • Master’s Degree in the field of specialty (Anaesthesia) or equivalent qualification from a recognized Medical School or University
  • Minimum of 5 years practical experience in specialist capacity with valid certificate of good standing.
  • Registered Specialist with the Fiji Medical Council or registered specialist in another country that is recognized by the Fiji Medical Council.
  • Excellent attention to detail when managing patients
  • Confidence to work with a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals
