Medical Laboratory and Histopathology Unit

In 1999, the pathology service began as a division of Suva Private Hospital and aimed to deliver exceptional pathology services in Fiji and other Pacific countries. The common tests conducted include Glucose, Lipids, RFT, LFT, CE, FBC, and TFT, while additional tests are typically ordered during illnesses. Initially part of Suva Private Hospital, the pathology service has now become part of Oceania Hospitals. It boasts a qualified and experienced team, with Dr Siva S Kumar serving as the Head of the Pathology Laboratory and Pathologist. The pathology service has established a long-term business relationship with Symbion Laverty Pathology of Australia. Furthermore, it has partnered with other renowned affiliates such as Roche Diagnostics, Siemens Healthineers, Abacus Dx, and Thermofisher Scientific, which are world-class diagnostic providers recognized in the top ten at the global level.

  • Histology & Cytology
  • Results for routine Cytology is completed within 24hrs
  • Results for routine Histology specimens are out within 2-3days
  • In-house Pathologist reports all the Histology and cytology results.

External Quality Assurance Program

  • The Pathology Laboratory actively participates in external Quality Assurance Programs through Royal College of Pathologist of Australasia (RCPA) and Pacific Pathology Training College (PPTC) based in New Zealand (which is part of WHO).
