Professor Ifereimi Waqainabete is a Consultant General Surgeon Specialist at Oceania Hospitals Pte Ltd.
He is Vocationally registered by the Fiji Medical Council as Specialist in Hepatic-Pancreatic and Biliary Surgery; Breast & Endocrine Surgery and General Surgery.
Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete is a highly respected Professor of Surgery and a leading figure in the field of healthcare in the Pacific region. With a career spanning over two decades, Dr. Waqainabete has made significant contributions as a specialist surgeon, clinician, and healthcare leader.
He was a Fellow in Gastrointestinal, Hepatic-Pancreatic- Biliary Surgeon , Breast, and Endocrine Surgery in Christchurch Public Hospital for 2 years and Honorary Lecturer in General Surgery for the University of Otago New Zealand. He was also a Rowan Nick Fellow in NZ in 2003 and spent a year as a Senior General Surgical Registrar in Palmerston North Hospital in 2005.
He was also previously Associate Professor Surgery at FNU. His leadership in public health has driven numerous healthcare initiatives, including policies on universal health coverage, advancements in surgical systems, and the improvement of healthcare access for all Fijians. His passion for improving health outcomes and his commitment to his patients, combined with his academic and clinical expertise, have earned him recognition both locally and internationally.
